Comments: I decided early this year, 2020, to see if I could revive the fragments of Spanish I retained from school, figure out where the gaps might be, and see if I could actually pull together a usable spoken Spanish. After some hunting around, I discovered Astrid, and then had to wait till I was finally available to start lessons with her via Zoom in late summer 2020. Her energy and enthusiasm are wonderful, and she was able quickly to figure out what would help me the most. Every lesson is tailored to deal with an issue or need we’ve identified as we’ve gone along. I’m amazed at how far we got, and how much better I am, in just 4 months. My confidence is much stronger now and I’m even more motivated to improve! I feel truly fortunate to be one of her students, and I’m looking forward to continuing to work with her in 2021.

Comments: Summer 2020 was a time to learn a new skill, even at my pensionable age. I love the musicality of spoken Spanish, so I elected to start to learn some conversational Spanish.   I turned to Astrid Ruiz, who had been recommended to me and she was certainly a good choice. Astrid is a gifted teacher who is patient and provides just the right combination of encouragement and cajoling. I took around 22 lessons of one hour long (I’ve had to stop temporarily because workplace demands and other commitments took over). I learned a tremendous amount from a standing start.   I had no Spanish at all and now feel able to pick up the gist of simple written pieces and to understand a lot of what’s said to me – though not yet speak a lot in reply! I did no studying between sessions (not a good student!) but have benefitted greatly from my lessons and have enjoyed the process.

When life is less hectic I intend to return to Astrid. She made the sessions interesting and fun and provided a lot of source material for my own study if I needed it. She works hard at helping her students, but does so with a very light touch and good humour.

I can thoroughly recommend Astrid as a truly excellent teacher of Spanish.

Comments: "Astrid has been tutoring my son [now 16] in GCSE Spanish over the last 2 years. She manages to make her lessons really fun whilst also concentrating on the hard stuff e.g. grammar.
My son has very much enjoyed all of his lessons with Astrid and she is extremely patient with him. He moved from Face to Face tutoring to Zoom lessons over lock down and we have been impressed at how well this has worked for us.
I can highly recommend Astrid as a tutor. [ rating 5/5] "
