¡Hola! I am Astrid Ruiz,

I was born in Medellin Colombia where I trained and qualified as an Architect.
My love of languages drew me to England to learn English and I attended 4 years part time study at a language school in Bournemouth. In 2006 I proudly became a British Citizen and hold dual nationality.
Why learn Spanish?
Spanish is one of the World's most spoken languages with over 400 million Spanish native speakers in 21 countries and many others that have large populations understanding and speaking Spanish too.
Unlike some other languages, if you learn Spanish, whichever Spanish speaking country you visit you will be able to understand and make yourself understood.
I teach professionally
I moved to Kingsbridge, South Devon to become a part time Primary School teacher of Spanish and I was an assistant teacher of Spanish at the Kingsbridge Community College, for 10 years, teaching students from year 10 to year 13 and held a special responsibility for the A level Spanish speaking examinations.
I am passionate about my teaching and I have inspired many of the students to travel to South America. Some students have travelled to Spain to complete language degrees and some are now working in South America and Spain.
I have completed many enjoyable hours tutoring adults on a one to one basis over the past 10 years to all levels. One of my mature students has completed his first GCSE, in Spanish, at the age of 60 and attained a grade 'A' pass.
NOW TEACHING - ONLINE DISTANCE LEARNING
During the outbreak of Coronavirus, our school was closed to all visiting students and our school continued, with distance teaching online, using WhatsApp and Zoom.
We discovered that learning in this way was mutually beneficial and the learning process accelerated due to better concentration and involvment. As an aid to the distance learning we send out accompanying notes as PDF files via email, when required, instead of students having to make there own reference notes.
Why not give it a try.
